lf ‘marathon’ raises in excess of £9,000 for Prostate Cancer UK
A team from Auto Windscreens has raised £9,200 as part of Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘The Big lf Race’ campaign. The five-strong team were made up of Tim Poole, James Reynolds, Dave Bingham, Ryan Thomson and Spencer Jones, who provided both refreshment and motivation. The lfers played four rounds in 16 hours and finished with a combined score of 1,520.
The ‘marathon’ started at 5.30am on 21st June at Shirland lf Club in Derbyshire, covering 72 holes and more than 20 miles.
Auto Windscreens Regional Service Manager, Frank Bland, who is recovering from prostate cancer, inspired the team to undertake the event. He was guest of honour and made the final putt.
James Reynolds, one of the players and Auto Windscreens Commercial and Sales Director, said: “It was a long but very enjoyable day and it was wonderful to raise funds for a cause that’s very close to our hearts.
“We’re very grateful to Shirland lf Club, in particular George Wishart, Director of Shirland Country Club, in helping us make this happen, to all those who kindly supplied prizes for our silent auction, and of course to the individuals who donated and made such generous bids to enable us to raise such a fantastic amount for charity.”
Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK said: “We’re delighted that the team from Auto Windscreens chose to support Prostate Cancer UK by taking on our Big lf Race. Their challenge was no mean feat!
“Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes – roughly the time it takes to play three holes of lf. It is from the support such as this that we can continue to fund life-saving research and support men affected by prostate cancer and their families.
“Our sincere thanks to everyone involved in making this challenge a success and we wish Frank a speedy recovery with his prostate cancer treatment”.
